Meet Don

Gidday, I've lived here on the Sun-e Coast since 1978. I started coming here as a kid to Maroochydore and Caloundra during the sixties - from Brisbane for family holidays. As soon as I had finished school I came straight up to work as a lifeguard at Noosa & Sunshine beach. I had been involved with Maroochydore Life Saving Club as a nipper and always been a competitor in swimming, R & R, beach flags and sprints.

Surfing took over from there, and I forged very many great friendships that have lasted ever since.

My background has been in retail across a number of different disciplines. I spent many years working at NCS Timber in sales on Sugar Road, but then went on to work for Automart at the Sands and managed The Sands Music and Hi-Fi. From there I managed Sunseeker Video head office for a couple of years before we set up our fashion stores.

Rock Bottom, Rocky's Boutique, Fashion Market, FM @ The Plaza, and stores in Noosa Junction, Kippa Ring and a warehouse at Bundilla.

My wife, Kathy Frost, and I had focused our energies on the businesses before having a family so we didn't have our first of three until 1989. I actually spent the main part of 88 at EXPO as a Food & Beverage manager looking after ten outdoor outlets serving ice-creams, donuts, pies & chocolates.

My retail skills were recognised at the time, and I was invited on to a RAQ committee consulting on the redrafting of the Retail Shop Leases Act. Legislation that has stood the test of time AND still well serves the retail shop community. After which I was accepted by the Barrister's Board (based on a body of work from self defending us in The Supreme Court & successfully in the Court of Appeal) to study for my legal qualifications and then to take the bar, however our third child and the death of my father-in-law soon after saw a change of direction!

After 20 years in my current business, I am ready and able for a new challenge should I be fortunate enough to get voted in.  I come armed with ideas and solutions.

AND my greatest advertisement WILL be the whole of Hinterland that will be able to freely attest to what a hard worker I am!
